ASHOK K. KARMAKER

Attorney Ashok K. Karmaker started this law firm of Law Offices of Ashok K. Karmaker, P.C. in March, 2004 after passing the New York Bar in his first attempt.

As an attorney Mr. Karmaker has represented hundreds of clients in their immigration applications/petitions and proceedings and before Board of Immigration Proceedings. 

He has successfully represented many asylum seekers from countries including Bangladesh, India and Nepal. He has earned extensive knowledge in representing clients in their complex Adjustment of Status cases. In this career of about 11 years in practice Mr. Karmaker earned an excellent record in representing students (F1), artists (P3), investors (E-2, EB-5) and in many other cases.

Mr. Karmaker represented hundreds of New Yorkers in their real estate transactions, business closings, civil litigation and in many contested and uncontested divorce proceedings.

Mr. Karmaker’s office has assisted clients in receiving millions of dollars in settlements in their personal injury cases.

As a Chevening scholar under the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office Mr. Karmaker has been trained in Human Rights and earned his Masters in Human Rights in 2000 from the Institute of Commonwealth Studies under the University of London, UK.

Mr. Karmaker has extensive knowledge about Bangladeshi law and legal system as he had been a judge for about 5 years and, later, he joined the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs as a senior Assistant Secretary, where he worked about 3 years.

As an officer of the Law Ministry Mr. Karmaker had the opportunity to work with Honorable Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs assisting him in his parliamentary duties such as writing speeches and preparing answers to the question of the Parliament Members.

Apart from legal profession Mr. Karmaker has engaged himself in legal writing of national interest, particularly of Bangladesh. One of his earlier writings brought the wrath of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh in 1995. But the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court ultimately set aside the verdict in his favor. 

Mr. Karmaker prides himself on being an empathetic listener committed to understanding any client’s objectives and goals.  He is an excellent communicator of the legal options available to a client. 

Mr. Karmaker has been interviewed on numerous occasions by both the print and electronic media for his opinions concerning many important legal issues of national importance and interest of Bangladesh and that impacting the interests of the expatriate Bangladeshis in the USA.

Mr. Karmaker is admitted to practice law in New York and Dhaka, Bangladesh.
